According to Reuters news on February 16, Ford hopes to cooperate with Tencent to introduce China's most popular chat software, WeChat, to Ford's vehicles in China.
David Huang, a senior engineer in charge of connectivity services at Ford's Asia Pacific division, said that Ford was in talks with Tencent about the introduction of WeChat.
Huang said that there is a big market demand for connecting the car's in-vehicle entertainment information system with mobile applications, because consumers want to keep in touch with friends and family while driving.
Ford envisions that in the future, drivers can synchronize their mobile phones with the in-vehicle software system, and use the voice commands or simple button operations to use several WeChat functions licensed by Tencent to Ford.
Nowadays, many Chinese people are using WeChat's free voice messaging function. People are sending and receiving voice messages while walking on the road. Some even hold mobile phones while driving. However, using a mobile phone while driving a vehicle violates road traffic safety laws.
If the car's in-vehicle information system can be synchronized with WeChat, the driving safety issues involved will be solved, and consumers will prefer this car with convenient and safe chat function.
At present, in addition to Ford, a number of automakers, including Daimler and Nissan, are also focusing on suppliers of mobile applications and network services, and are striving for cooperation opportunities. Obviously, a war without smoke has begun.
