On August 26, local Indian media reported that India’s Ministry of New Energy and Renewable Energy has signed a 100 megawatt (MW) solar power purchase agreement to accelerate the development of solar power in India.

The Minister of New Energy and Renewable Energy, Farouk Abdullah, said that the Ministry has received nearly 300 applications for solar energy project construction from major companies. The interest shown by these companies will likely increase. The future solar power generation capacity to 700 MW. Abdullah said that compared to last year, India's solar power generation capacity was only 7-8 megawatts, which is undoubtedly a big leap in the new energy industry. At the same time, Deepark Gupta, secretary of the New Energy Department, also stated that they have approved 25 megawatts of off-grid power generation projects, which will provide electricity for areas like rural areas, border areas, and other remote areas.

At the same time, Abdullah stated that he is not opposed to the use of Chinese equipment in the construction of a large number of solar power projects. Chinese equipment is both good and bad. India only hopes to introduce the best technology into China. Of course, the Indian government will also greatly encourage the equipment of domestic manufacturers.

The Indian government’s Nehru National Solar Mission stated that by 2022 (ie, the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan), the installed capacity of solar power in India should reach 20,000 MW, which will be gradually achieved in three steps.
